The AIC announces new Chair
The Australia-Indonesia Centre is pleased to announce Andrew MacIntyre as the new chair of the centre’s advisory board.
Professor Emeritus MacIntyre brings a lifetime of Indonesia knowledge and experience to the AIC and joins in the tenth year of its work in strengthening an important bilateral relationship.
Most notably Professor MacIntyre led the successful establishment of Monash University’s Indonesia campus, the first foreign university to operate in the country, and only recently retired as its pro vice-chancellor and president.
His commitment to the bilateral relationship started when he was a teenager and he has been visiting Indonesia ever since as a student, researcher and leading academic.
Professor MacIntyre’s dedication to building genuine partnerships and his deep knowledge of Indonesian culture fit perfectly with the AIC’s mission to advance people-to-people links in science, technology, education, innovation and culture.
“For me, being asked to chair the advisory board of the Australia-Indonesia Centre, it’s just a privilege. It’s a pleasure.”
According to Professor MacIntyre the AIC provides a tremendous institutional framework for universities to make an impact through the centre’s major research program.
“Indonesia is such a large country and so many of the big global issues are playing out right now in a big way in Indonesia. It’s a great opportunity to design research projects that have really major impact.”
According to AIC executive director Dr Eugene Sebastian the appointment reflects the importance of the centre’s work.
“Andrew is highly respected by his peers and those with an interest in the bilateral relationship.”
“I am looking forward to working with him on delivering more impact with the AIC and further deepening ties between the two countries.”
The AIC is headquartered at Monash University in Melbourne, the centre’s lead agency, and brings together a consortium of leading research universities from both countries.
The AIC advisory board represents a wealth of experience in academia, diplomacy, civil society and business across both countries.
