Indonesian artist transforms marine trash into art

Bayuaji invented a new upcycled material called ArtWeave by turning “ghost gear” — the drifting discards of the fishing industry — into refined textile art. His ongoing project, “Weaving the Ocean,” entwines three messages: tackling sea pollution, reviving Bali’s textile tradition, and supporting the autonomy of women.
