AIC Senior Fellow Professor Nunung Nuryartono appointed to Bank Indonesia’s board of supervisors

The Australia-Indonesia Centre congratulates AIC Senior Fellow and Dean of Economics and Management at IPB University Professor Nunung Nuryartono on his appointment to Bank Indonesia’s board of supervisors, the BSBI, for 2020-2023.
“This is an important parliamentary appointment for Bank Indonesia,” says AIC Executive Director Dr Eugene Sebastian. “Professor Nunung will bring an important voice for rural and marginalised Indonesians to their strategic policy discussions.”
Prof. Nunung specialises in microfinance and economic development, having received his PhD from the University of Goettingen in Germany with a focus on rural development.
The board of supervisors oversees Bank Indonesia’s activities, ensuring accountability, independence and transparency, and also presents the bank’s major policy decisions to the Indonesian Parliament.
Prof. Nunung is currently the Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management IPB University. He joined the AIC network in 2017 as a lead investigator on a study of the economics of cocoa farming and in 2019 he became a Senior Fellow, taking on a lead role in the Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (PAIR) which aims to facilitate maximum benefit for rural communities from South Sulawesi’s new train line.
Since studying Agricultural Economics through a bachelor and a master at IPB, Prof. Nunung has served in many economics roles. He sits on the National Science and Technology Council for 2019-2022 and previously served as secretary for the Chairman Presidential Advisory Council (Wantimpres).
His past positions at IPB include Director of the International Center for Applied Finance and Economics and Head of the Economics Post Graduate Program.
