New Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams joins AIC board

I am pleased to announce Australia’s new Ambassador to Indonesia, her Excellency Penny Williams PSM, has joined the Australia-Indonesia Centre advisory board.

Ambassador Williams presented her credentials to President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on Wednesday 1 September.

Originally from Tasmania, Ambassador Williams is an experienced career diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. She was High Commissioner to Malaysia from 2007 to 2010, having also had postings to Syria and Chile.

She was also Australia’s first Ambassador for women and girls.

Ambassador Williams has strong cultural links to Indonesia, having completed a student exchange in Jakarta and being fluent in the Indonesian language.

On behalf of the Board, I am delighted to welcome Ambassador Williams to the AIC and look forward to working with her.

With her extensive knowledge of the Indonesian people, language and culture, she is uniquely well-placed to make a contribution to the Centre’s work.
